NIAGARA FALLS WEEKEND TOUR

THIS TRIP IS NOW FULL

IMPS Niagara Falls Weekend Tour

The IMPS weekend trip to Niagara Falls on Sept. 9 - 11, is a great opportunity to not only see the world-famous Niagara Falls, but also to stay with an American host in their home and experience a worship service at their church.  We will be staying with hosts from a church in Gasport, NY.  The entire day on Saturday will involve sightseeing at the Niagara Falls area.  After the church service on Sunday we will have lunch together with all the hosts before returning to Penn State that afternoon.  This trip is limited to 28 people, so register early!

(Please note that we will leave State College at 2pm on Friday, Sept. 9.  If you have classes or other responsibilities later that day, you should speak with your advisor or professors to get approval to be away before you register for this trip.  Usually this is not a problem.)

SCHEDULE:
Friday
1:45pm - Assemble in the lobby of the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center (across Curtin Road from Pattee Library and the main CATA bus stop), and leave promptly by 2:00pm
5:30pm - Stop in Salamanca, NY area for restroom, dinner and gas en route
7:30pm - Arrive at Gasport, NY; meet host family, spend the evening with them
Saturday
8:00am - Meet at church & drive to the Niagara Falls
8:30am - Arrive at Niagara Falls; Morning touring as a group in exploring the American side of Falls (Power Vista, Whirlpool State Park, Goat Island, and Three Sisters Islands), followed by individual options for the rest of the day (see below).
6:00pm - Return to Gapsort and host family at 7:00pm
Sunday
Morning - Attend church activities with your host family
12:00 noon - Lunch at church with all host families
1:30pm - Leave from church and return to State College - arrive home by 7:00pm
=============================================================

Meals: Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, dinner on Saturday, and lunch on Sunday are provided by your host family.  You must bring or buy food for Saturday lunch.

Cost: $55  Your share of travel/vehicle expenses and administrative costs

Optional activities on the American side will include: (approximate costs)
Maid of the Mist Boat Ride:  $18 for adults
Cave of the Winds (walk to the base of the American Falls): $17 for adults
    Aquarium of Niagara Falls: $13
    Niagara Falls Theater: $12

- While sightseeing, you should always stay with at least one member of our group.
- You will not need any sleeping bag, pillows or towels.  Your host family will provide bedding and towels - like in a hotel. Please bring your other personal items like soap, shampoo, toothbrush, etc.
- Bring a raincoat or umbrella, and warm clothing, since the mist coming from the falls can be heavy and cold. The weather and temperatures at Niagara Falls are often similar to State College.
-Common Courtesy in the United States includes sending a short "thank you" letter or email to your host family after you return to State College.

*All of our sightseeing will be on the American side of the Falls, so you do not need a Canadian visa.  Most international students need visas to enter Canada, and because it costs more than $75 to get a Canadian visa for the few hours you could be in Canada by walking across the bridge, most of our group will decide to stay on the American side of the Falls.  If you choose to apply for a Canadian visa, you may obtain the application form at the Penn State Office of Global Programs.  Note:  The application process typically takes at least two weeks.

This trip will be led by Kirk & Julie Zuercher. To register, print off, complete and sign the registration form below, and return it with your payment of $55 (cash or check made payable to Kirk Zuercher) to me (Bill Saxton), in our office at 210A Eisenhower Chapel.  You can call before you come to be certain that I am in the office.  Even if I am not in the office when you come, you can place your payment in an envelope, write your name and phone number and email address on the envelope, and slide it under the office door.  I (Bill) will then email you to confirm that I have received it and that you are registered for the trip!

An important note about this trip:
It is important that you speak some English in order to communicate with your host family.  Visiting parents or other relatives may join this trip if they are accompanied by their Penn State - affiliated family member.  Also, if they do not have Penn State University medical insurance, you should purchase insurance for them.  You may find insurance on your own, or you may wish to check:  http://www.insurancepa.com or contact them by email:  mark@insurancepa.com or phone: 1-888-671-2639.
